Namhae Mijo OFW Project

Overview

Project Overview

The Namhae Mijo Offshore Wind Project is a 384MW fixed-bottom offshore wind farm jointly developed by Vena Energy and Korea Midland Power.

The project is being developed in the waters near Gudolseo, Sangju-myeon, Namhae-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Donghang-ri, Yokji-myeon, Tongyeong-si.Mijo Wind has secured the Electricity Business License and completed the Environmental Impact Assessment, demonstrating a leading stage of development among offshore wind projects currently under development in the Gyeongnam offshore area. Based on this foundation, the project is gaining further momentum in advancing global green energy development initiatives.

Employees of Mijo Wind are committed to the successful implementation of the project while making every effort to promote mutual growth with local fishermen, communities, and local governments in the southern coastal region.

Effect

Advantages & Expectations

  • 01

    Energy Independence and Supply Stability

Korea has a high dependence on imported energy, making the country vulnerable to price fluctuations and supply instability caused by external factors. Offshore wind farms developed in Korea’s coastal waters can generate electricity domestically, helping strengthen energy supply stability and contributing to greater energy independence.

  • 02

    Environmental Protection and Sustainable Energy

Unlike fossil fuels, offshore wind is a clean energy source that produces little to no carbon dioxide (CO₂) or methane (CH₄) during electricity generation. This helps mitigate climate change and supports global efforts to address global warming. Wind is also a naturally renewable resource that will not be depleted. The development of offshore wind farms represents an important step toward building a more sustainable society and providing future generations with a brighter future powered by renewable energy.

  • 03

Regional Economic Revitalization and Job Creation

Offshore wind farms create long-term economic benefits for local communities through both the construction and operational phases, spanning approximately 25 to 30 years. Throughout the construction and operation of offshore wind projects, a wide range of employment opportunities are created. Increased population inflows and local business activities also help stimulate regional economies.

Environmental Impact Assessment

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is conducted for each offshore wind farm to evaluate the potential impacts of the project on the environment. It is an essential step to ensure environmental protection and sustainable development.

The EIA systematically and scientifically examines the potential effects that an offshore wind farm may have on the surrounding environment during construction and operation. The goal is to minimize environmental harm and promote coexistence with nature.

Namhae Mijo Wind Power submitted the initial EIA report in September 2023 and followed adequate process thereafter. After successfully negotiating with relevant organizations and agencies, the EIA was finally approved in September 2025.

ESG

ESG Management

NMWP committed to practicing ESG management, placing climate action and the sustainable development of local communities at the core of its values. We work closely with local communities, local governments, and national authorities to explore ways to meaningfully contribute to sustainability and the energy transition, while striving to create long-term value for all stakeholders.

Throughout the entire lifecycle of the project, we prioritize open communication with local communities and aim to promote sustainable social and economic development. To this end, we actively support a wide range of social contribution and community partnership initiatives in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the environment.
